Making a World of Difference: A Foundations Seminar

Introduction

Today’s realities demand that more of us learn to interact effectively with people who are different from ourselves and within situations that are not at all what we expect. We are called to form dynamic healthy personal and professional relationships as well as to harness the inherent innovation and creativity offered when differing ideas come together.

Leadership across difference is a critical skill for global navigation.

It is our time to take this lead as never before; we can:

  • lead at work, as we harness the inherent creative potential of difference to innovate with inspiration and purpose
  • lead in our difference laden communities, as we organize for sustainability and civic action,
  • lead and learn with our neighbors and co-workers, especially those that are very different from us, as we cultivate genuine relationships, and
  • lead our families as dynamic systems and ourselves as complex, multi-faceted individuals as we nurture both strength and compassion.

In whatever situations we find ourselves needing to lead across difference, the challenge is in HOW we lead. We ultimately have two broad choices:

  1. move from habit, the way we always have done, letting our automatic assumptions and emotional reactions (however seemingly justified) rule us and cause us to do more-of-the-same, or
  2. move forward from purpose, using a process to see that each event is unique and can, if approached consciously, illuminate the particular dynamics of the situation we're in and what we are to do.

This program is grounded in the Personal Leadership™ methodology of two principles, six practices, and the process technology called the Critical Moment Dialogue. As a tool, it offers a

  • practice-based,
  • reliable, and
  • infinitely repeatable process

for determining the best way to move forward (now, and now, and now) with confidence and ease. It is designed to help people stay connected to their internal wisdom and creativity and to discern right action at all times, especially when faced with change, the unfamiliar, and in times of personal or professional transition.

Personal Leadership is used by individuals, communities, and business teams around the world. For more information, please visit: PLSeminars.com.

  • Expand what you know is possible exactly when you are feeling the most restricted;
  • Engage changing circumstances with confidence, and with a stance both of clear purpose and openness to outcome;

  • Engage the uplifting energetic shift from resistance into inspiration;
  • Maximize the alignment of your personal vision with your commitment and life purpose; and
  • Explore what it means to live an active life from the inside out, guided not by our cultural constraints, but by employing our full intelligence.

The Artistry of Personal Leadership Training-of-Facilitator

The Learning Objectives: As a participant in this Training-of-Facilitators (ToF) seminar, you will increase your ability to do the following:

  • Adapt Personal Leadership to your individualized professional situations.
  • Design activities that are appropriate to your specific clients or industry to illustrate the two principles and six practices.
  • Articulate the background and history of Personal Leadership.
  • Place Personal Leadership within contexts, including: leadership development, positive psychology, change theory, whole-person self-development, conflict transformation, and intercultural communication.
  • Explain Personal Leadership’s guiding tenets and answer frequently asked questions.
  • Use personal stories/examples to illustrate the principles and practices of Personal Leadership and the Critical Moment Dialogue.
  • Assess yourself against the ToF Developmental Benchmarks and create a personalized plan for on-going development as a Facilitator of PL.

Together we will augment and amend these goals in response to the learning agendas you and the other participants bring to the seminar. The final design of this program will be tailored to the experience level and developmental need of those who register.

Who Should Attend: This program is specifically for first-time ToFers and Associate Facilitators still in training. As this is designed with attention to ToF basics, it will not generally be open to participation by Senior Facilitators (unless by special request, because of a developmental benchmark interest).

The Schedule: The Training-of-Facilitators Seminar is comprised of two simultaneous and interactive components: 1) a PL Foundations seminar, in which you will be a full participant, and 2) ToF-specific sessions held before, during, and after the Foundations seminar. The ToF sessions will:

  • bring your attention specifically to the facilitation process, refining your facilitation practice, focusing on capacity and knowledge development, and addressing individualized applications of Personal Leadership,
  • involve independent design work, small group collaboration, and delivery experimentations,
  • deepen your own personal PL practice and
  • provide an opportunity for small group coaching with the seminar leaders.

Seminar Leaders: ToF sessions will be designed and facilitated by Sheila J. Ramsey, Ph.D, Barbara F. Schaetti, Ph.D., and Gordon Watanabe, Ed.D. The Foundations seminar will be designed and facilitated by Gordon Watanabe, Ed.D.

We hope you will join us for a uniquely powerful and joyous experience.
