Academic Credit for SIIC
Academic credit for SIIC workshops is offered cooperatively by the Intercultural Communication Institute and Portland State University, Continuing Education/Graduate School of Education with the School of Extended Studies.
Both undergraduate and graduate credit are available from Portland State University (2 quarter credits for Session I or Session III b, and 3 quarter credits for Session II or Session III a). The course title is "Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication, EPFA 510."
Portland State University academic credit policy: Non-admitted graduate and undergraduate students may take up to 8 credits in each of fall, winter, and spring terms; and up to 21 credits in summer. Admitted students are limited to a maximum of 16 credits in each of all four terms, unless otherwise approved. Note that credit for SIIC workshops is awarded during the fall term.
Additional information on academic credit will be avaliable online about the middle of June. A required academic credit informational meeting will be held each session to answer questions and register students. To earn academic credit, participants must attend workshops full-time, read assigned material following the workshops, and complete a written project. Please contact Debra Freathy (503-297-4622, debra@intercultural.org) rather than Portland State University for additional information about the academic credit option.
Continuing Education Credits (CEC) or Units (CEU)
The Oregon Counseling Association (ORCA) co-sponsors SIIC workshops and is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as a provider of NBCC continuing education contact hours (NBCC provider #2038). We adhere to NBCC Continuing Education Guidelines. NBCC is also accepted as a credentialing body by the Oregon State Board of Clinical Social Workers. Please contact ICI if you have questions about hours, requirements, or fees.
Many SIIC workshops also qualify for the continuing education units required by other professional groups (teachers, attorneys, etc.). Please contact ICI for more information about this opportunity.
